Quality management systems — Requirements
What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is the most popular quality standard fully recognized and accepted worldwide. It covers general products and services across all industries, with over a million issued certificates. The standard is built on a process-based approach with the intention of achieving continuous improvement through a company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle, in combination with risk-based thinking, are fundamental pillars for establishing a healthy and effective management system based on the ISO 9001 structure. Due to its uniform approach and foundational principles, ISO 9001 has become the basis for other sector-specific standards such as ISO 13485 for the medical device sector, ISO/TS 16949 (now IATF 16949) for the automotive industry, and ISO 14001 for environmental management.

How to Achieve Certification According to ISO 9001
ISO 9001 certification involves several steps before we can grant you a certificate as a result of compliance with all applicable requirements of the ISO 9001 standard or other relevant regulations.
The Steps to ISO 9001 Certification:
1. Pre-audit and Gap Analysis:
- A voluntary activity performed prior to formal assessment activities.
- We will assess your implemented quality management system against all applicable requirements set by the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
- This step involves a close examination of your system, facilities, and processes to identify any gaps in compliance and analyze potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Assessment activities will be planned based on the organization’s readiness to comply with ISO 9001:2015.
2. Off-site Assessment:
- Before the on-site visit for conformity assessment, our auditors will review your quality management documentation, procedures, and process controls.
- This allows us to become familiar with specific aspects of your production and identify strong and weak points in your management system documentation.
3. Stage One Audit and Stage Two Audits:
- Audit teams will challenge your quality management system, process controls, staff, and other resources to determine their compliance with applicable ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
- All findings identified during these stages will be communicated with your organization, and subsequent actions will be verified.
4. bqs Certification Body Decision:
- Based on the audit team’s recommendation, bqs will make a decision regarding the issuance of certification.
- If your organization proves its ability to meet the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems standard, a certificate with a validity of three years will be granted.
5. Post-Certification Activities:
- In order to maintain continuous compliance with ISO 9001:2015, bqs as your certification body, will annually perform surveillance audits over your facilities and quality management system.
- These audits aim to verify your commitment to continuous improvement and compliance with customer requirements.
